Registration & Visa information

VISA INFORMATION

Visa information for foreigners travelling to Canada 

No visa is requested for US Citizens.

An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air, such as Australia, Japan, Israel and European countries except Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. You can find more information about the eTA here.

For the other countries, you do need a visa and/or to give biometrics. Please check if you would need to process a visa to go to Canada here and if you need to give biometrics here.

In any case, we invite you to contact the Canadian Embassy of your country as early as possible, you may find all the information on the Official website of the Canadian Government. If needed, we will provide you with an invitation letter after your registration.

GET TO THE HOTEL

Domestic, US & International flights will land at the Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International airport located 22 kilometres west of downtown Montreal.

By taxi:

Metered taxis are readily available and can be found waiting outside the baggage reclaim area on the ground level. There are also Uber services available.  Usually taxi fares are fixed, specially to Montreal city centre, which costs 41 CAD from the Airport. The journey to the hotel is about 20 minutes.

Airport Bus Service

To go to & from downtown, you can board the 747 Express Bus 24 hours a day. It is an airport bus service, taking passengers into the centre of Montreal and to the major downtown hotels.

MEETING POINT FOR TOURS DEPARTURE

Please meet us at the lobby of the Intercontinental 15 minutes before the departure of each tour.

English is the official language of the meeting.

CURRENCY

The currency used is the Canadian Dollar (CAD). Banks and exchange offices will change cash, as will some hotels. Major credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are widespread. US Dollars are widely accepted.

WEATHER IN MONTREAL

The first fifteen days of May are characterized by cool yet sunny mornings. When the sun is at its peak, maximum temperatures reach comfortable values because the thermometer displays around 17° C. At the end of the afternoon, after sunset, the temperatures decrease slightly without affecting the feeling of pleasant freshness felt all afternoon. However, as rainfall is relatively abundant, expect rainfall events that occur at any time of the day.

ELECTRICITY

Electrical current is 120 volts, 60Hz. American-style flat two-pin plugs and a plug with a third round grounding pin are standard.

TIME ZONE

Montreal is on the Eastern time zone of North America: GMT -4 from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.

PHONE

The international access code for Canada is +1. The outgoing code is 011 followed by the relevant country code. The outgoing code is not necessary for calls to the US and the Caribbean. Hotels, cafes and restaurants offering free wifi are widely available. As international roaming costs can be high, purchasing a local prepaid SIM card can be a cheaper option.

TIPS

It is customary to tip restaurant waiters, taxi drivers approximately 15-20% on the total bill before tax.

Montreal is a very safe city. It is ranked 17th on the ranking of the safest and most dangerous cities.
